Zgharta Sambousak

A classic Zgharta sweet, delectable and crunchy, perfect for Saint Joseph's feast day.

Ingredients
- 250 g of flour
- 100 g of butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 100 g of sugar
- 100 g of almonds
- 100 g of cocoa powder
- 100 g of pistachios
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- oil for frying
- icing sugar for decoration
Method
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, melted butter, egg, salt, and sugar until you get a homogeneous dough.
- Remove the dough and form small balls of about 15-20 grams each.
- Take a ball of dough, form a circle, and add a small amount of cocoa powder, almonds, and pistachios.
- Cover with another circle of dough and seal the edges well.
- Fry the sambousak in plenty of hot oil until they become golden brown.
- Drain the sambousak on paper towels and let them cool.
- Occasionally decorate with icing sugar.
- Serve warm or cold.

Zgharta's sambousak are famous for their traditional recipe, attributed to the presence of Lebanese communities in this place. This sweet has been prepared for centuries during Saint Joseph's feast day.
