Yebeg Wot

A traditional Ethiopian beef stew with a spicy tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients
- 500g of beef, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- Salt to taste
Method
- In a non-stick pan, sauté the onions and garlic in olive oil for a few minutes.
- Add the beef and cook for 5-7 minutes until the beef is well cooked.
- Add the tomatoes, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, sugar, and cinnamon, stir well.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook over medium heat for 20-25 minutes until the beef is tender.
- Add the beef broth and stir well. Cook for another 10-15 minutes until the sauce is thick and the beef is fully cooked.
- Season with salt if needed. Serve hot with Ethiopian bread.
