Ingredients

  • 150 g of almond flour
  • 100 g of sesame seeds
  • 100 g of honey
  • 50 g of granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cold water
  • Baking powder in sufficient quantity
  • Icing sugar for decoration

Method

  1. Take the almond flour and mix it with the sesame seeds and baking powder.
  2. In another bowl, mix the honey, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, water, oil, and a little cold water.
  3. Combine the almond flour and sesame seeds with the liquid mixture.
  4. Form small balls with the dough obtained.
  5. Fry the balls in hot oil until they turn golden.
  6. Drain the yakgwa with a spoon and let them cool on a baking paper lined tray.
  7. Sprinkle with icing sugar before they completely cool.

The story

Yakgwa is a culinary tradition dating back to the Goryeo period, around the year 1000, and is said to have been a favorite sweet of the royal court.
