Ingredients
- 200g of rice flour
- 200g of gram flour
- 1 onion
- 1 chili
- 2 tablespoons of chili powder
- 2 onions
- 1 piece of ginger
- 1 liter of water
- 200g of lentils
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 1/2 cup of dried beans
Method
- In a bowl, mix the rice flour and gram flour, then add warm water and mix until you get a smooth batter.
- Form fritters with the obtained batter and fry them in hot oil.
- In another bowl, sauté the onion, garlic, and chili in oil.
- Add the ginger and dried beans, sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add the chili powder and salt, mix well.
- Add the lentils and water, bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes.
- Add the fritters to the sambhar and mix well.
- Serve hot with dried beans and coriander to taste.
The story
Originating from the streets of Chennai, Vada Sambhar was prepared by street vendors for hungry workers. The combination of vada (fritters) and sambhar (sauce) has become a daily staple.
