Ingredients

  • 400g of tteok (rice cakes)
  • 100ml of tteokbokki sauce
  • 500ml of chicken broth
  • 2 onions
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 tablespoons of soybean oil
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 100g of shrimp

Method

  1. In a pan, heat the soybean oil and sauté the finely chopped onions and red onions.
  2. Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  3. Add the tteokbokki sauce, ground red pepper, sugar, and salt, stirring well.
  4. Add the tteok and shrimp, stirring until they fully absorb the sauce.
  5. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, until the tteok is soft and the sauce is reduced.

The story

Tteokbokki originated in South Korea and has become a popular and iconic dish in Seoul.
