Tteokbokki (떡볶이)
A hot and colorful rice cake dish, spiced with a tangy and aromatic sauce.

Ingredients
- 400g of tteok (rice cakes)
- 100ml of tteokbokki sauce
- 500ml of chicken broth
- 2 onions
- 1 red onion
- 2 tablespoons of soybean oil
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon of ground red pepper
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- Salt to taste
- 100g of shrimp
Method
- In a pan, heat the soybean oil and sauté the finely chopped onions and red onions.
- Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
- Add the tteokbokki sauce, ground red pepper, sugar, and salt, stirring well.
- Add the tteok and shrimp, stirring until they fully absorb the sauce.
- Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, until the tteok is soft and the sauce is reduced.
The story
Tteokbokki originated in South Korea and has become a popular and iconic dish in Seoul.
