Trentino Apple Strudel

A traditional Trentino dessert, rich in crunch and sweetness.

Ingredients
- 300g of puff pastry dough
- 6-7 apples
- 200g of sugar
- 100g of butter
- 100g of chopped almonds
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon of caster sugar
Method
- Prepare the puff pastry dough and let it cool for 30 minutes.
- Peel and thinly slice the apples, mix with sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a work surface and brush with butter.
- Place the apples in the center of the pastry, add the chopped almonds and a bit of caster sugar.
- Quickly wrap the pastry around the apples, leaving a little space for the closure.
- Make a closure with the remaining pastry and sew the strudel shut.
- Make shallow cuts on the surface of the strudel.
- Sew the remaining pastry to close the strudel.
- Bake the strudel in the oven at 180°C for 40-50 minutes, until golden.
- Let it cool and serve with a dusting of caster sugar.
