A classic Sydney dish, delicious beef gyros served with french fries and golden yogurt sauce.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of beef tenderloin
  • 2 onions
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1/2 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 chopped red bell pepper
  • 100 g of Greek yogurt

Method

  1. Slice the beef tenderloin into thin strips.
  2. In a pan, sauté the chopped onions in olive oil.
  3. Add the chopped green and red bell peppers and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the balsamic vinegar and sugar, stir well.
  5. Add the beef, coat it with the sauce and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Place two slices of ham over the beef.
  7. Wrap tightly with the ham slices and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Serve the gyros on a plate with french fries and golden yogurt sauce.

The story

Beef gyros became popular in Sydney in the 1960s, originally made with lamb, but later adapted to include beef.
