Ingredients

  • 200g of thinly sliced beef fillet
  • 200g of onion
  • 200g of carrots
  • 100g of shiitake mushrooms
  • 200g of cauliflower
  • 200ml of daigaku sauce
  • 200ml of beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons of sake
  • 2 tablespoons of mirin
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Dice the onion, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms into small cubes.
  2. In a wok or large pan, bring the beef broth and daigaku sauce to a simmer.
  3. Add the onion and carrots, cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the shiitake mushrooms and cauliflower, cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add the beef, sake, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar, cook for 5 minutes over medium-high heat.
  6. Serve the Sukiyaki in a warm dish, allowing each person to add the meat and vegetables to their own bowl.
  7. Top the bowl with a miso soup for an extra flavor boost.

The story

Sukiyaki originates from Japan, where it was refined during the Edo period. This dish became popular in the 19th century as a family dinner.
