Ingredients

  • 500 g of lamb cut into pieces
  • 2 onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 zucchinis
  • 200 ml of beef broth
  • 200 g of potatoes
  • 100 g of butter
  • 100 g of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 200 g of grated cheese

Method

  1. In a pan, cook the lamb with the onions, carrots, and zucchinis until the lamb is well cooked.
  2. Add the beef broth and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. While the sauce cools, cook the potatoes, then mash them with butter and flour.
  4. Add the eggs and a bit of salt and pepper to bind the mixture.
  5. Pour the lamb sauce into a baking dish, then cover with the mashed potato mixture.
  6. Make a final layer of mashed potatoes and decorate with grated cheese.
  7. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes, until the crust is golden.

The story

Shepherds pie originated in England but has become an important part of Australian cuisine, especially in Sydney, where it is served in many homes and restaurants.
