Ingredients

  • 200 g of dried fruit bread
  • 100 g of butter
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 100 ml of milk
  • 100 ml of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla powder
  • 100 g of chopped pistachios
  • 100 g of fresh cream

Method

  1. Cut the dried fruit bread into pieces about 2 cm in size.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan and add the sugar, cook over medium heat until the honey melts.
  3. Add the milk, lemon juice, cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, stir well.
  4. In another pan, mix the egg, vanilla, and a portion of the fresh cream.
  5. Dip the bread pieces in the sauce, making sure they are well soaked.
  6. Add the bread pieces to the sauce with the egg and vanilla, stir well.
  7. Finally, add the chopped pistachios and gently mix.
  8. Serve cold, decorated with some bread pieces and pistachios.

Shahi Tukray, or 'royal cake,' is a traditional sweet from Lahore, with a history dating back to the 18th century, when it was served at court to celebrate festive days.
