A traditional Pakistani sweet, made of crunchy pieces of bread soaked in a rich and aromatic sauce.

Ingredients
- 200 g of dried fruit bread
- 100 g of butter
- 100 g of sugar
- 100 ml of milk
- 100 ml of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla powder
- 100 g of chopped pistachios
- 100 g of fresh cream
Method
- Cut the dried fruit bread into pieces about 2 cm in size.
- Melt the butter in a pan and add the sugar, cook over medium heat until the honey melts.
- Add the milk, lemon juice, cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, stir well.
- In another pan, mix the egg, vanilla, and a portion of the fresh cream.
- Dip the bread pieces in the sauce, making sure they are well soaked.
- Add the bread pieces to the sauce with the egg and vanilla, stir well.
- Finally, add the chopped pistachios and gently mix.
- Serve cold, decorated with some bread pieces and pistachios.
The story
Shahi Tukray, or 'royal cake,' is a traditional sweet from Lahore, with a history dating back to the 18th century, when it was served at court to celebrate festive days.
