Ingredients

  • 4 slices of soaked bread (like country bread or toasted bread)
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup of toasted fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground ginger
  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon of ground cardamom
  • 1/2 cup of chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of wine vinegar

Method

  1. Fry the bread pieces in a pan with butter until they become golden and crispy.
  2. In a saucepan, mix the yogurt, sugar, wine vinegar, and butter until it melts.
  3. Add the chopped onion and spices, cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the golden bread pieces and cover with the sauce, cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
  5. Finally, add the toasted fennel seeds and chopped nuts, mix well and serve hot.

Shahi Tukda is a traditional Delhi dish that drew inspiration from Persian cuisine, becoming popular in the 19th century.
