Ingredients

  • 200g of whole wheat bread
  • 100g of olive oil
  • 4 onions
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper, ground
  • Water to soak the bread
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Sauces of your choice (optional)

Method

  1. Grind the bread and soak it in water, then crush it to get a homogeneous paste.
  2. Slice the onions and garlic cloves thinly.
  3. In a pan, sauté the onions and garlic in olive oil.
  4. Add the bread paste and cook over medium heat until it becomes crispy.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then set aside.
  6. In a deep fryer, fry the sfeeha in plenty of olive oil.
  7. Serve hot with sauce of your choice, if desired.

Sfeeha is a traditional dish from Tyre, a historic city in Lebanon, where they have been prepared in various ways for centuries, but the version with garlic and olive oil has become particularly popular.
