Ingredients

  • 400g of pork belly (samgyeopsal)
  • 1 red onion sliced into rounds
  • 2 small green chili peppers cut into strips
  • Kimchi, 3 cups
  • Garlic leaves, 4 skewers
  • Soy sauce (ganjang), 1 teaspoon per person
  • Ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon per person

Method

  1. Slice the pork belly into strips about 3-4 cm wide.
  2. Prepare a table with heat-resistant mats and metal skewers for grilling.
  3. Grill the pork belly slices over medium-high heat, turning them every two minutes until they are crispy on the outside but still pink inside.
  4. Serve immediately with kimchi, sliced red onions, and green chili peppers. Offer garlic leaf skewers to add flavor to the food.
  5. Each person can sprinkle a small amount of soy sauce and ground black pepper onto their plate before eating.

The story

Samgyupsal became popular in South Korea during the '70s as a school cafeteria dish and quickly spread to households. Today, it is one of the most beloved dishes in Korean cuisine, often enjoyed at social gatherings.
