Ingredients

  • 250g of toasted bread, cut into cubes
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 200g of tomato, chopped
  • 100g of green onion, sliced into strips
  • 50g of carrot, grated
  • 50g of celery, grated
  • 100g of dried beans, boiled and drained
  • 50g of potatoes, grated
  • 100g of chickpeas, boiled and drained
  • 50g of toasted sesame seeds, chopped
  • 100g of Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of red onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sugar and salt for the sauce

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix the toasted bread, chopped red onion, chopped tomato, sliced green onion, grated carrot, grated celery, boiled and drained beans, grated potatoes, and boiled and drained chickpeas.
  2. Add the toasted sesame seeds, Greek yogurt, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, and red onion powder. Mix well.
  3. Arrange the mixture in bowls or plates, season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. In another bowl, prepare the sauce by mixing lemon juice, sugar, and salt.
  5. Serve the Bhel Puri with the lemon sauce and garnish with slices of green onion.
  6. Tasty and ready to be enjoyed!

Bhel Puri originated in Pune, Maharashtra, as a way to warm up with local ingredients during winter. It became popular as a snack and quick meal due to its convenience and delicious taste.
