Ingredients

  • 1 kg of mixed vegetables (okra, string beans, bell peppers, zucchini, eggplants, pumpkin)
  • 200 g of ground beef
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons of palm oil
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of sweet potato cubes

Method

  1. Wash and cut the vegetables into similar-sized pieces.
  2. In a pan, sauté the onions and garlic in palm oil.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until well done.
  4. Add the vegetables and season with soy sauce and tomato sauce.
  5. Cover and simmer on medium heat for 20-25 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Serve hot, seasoned with salt and pepper.

The story

Pinakbet has ancient roots and dates back to when Filipino farmers used only their garden produce to cook. In the Ilocos Region, it has become a culturally significant dish.
