Misir Wat

A traditional Ethiopian dish made with red lentils, spiced with chili and flavored with olive oil.

Ingredients
- 200 grams of red lentils
- 2 onions
- 4 garlic cloves
- 100 grams of chili pepper
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 clove of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground coriander
- Water for cooking
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Method
- Rinse the red lentils well and peel the onions, then slice the onions thinly.
- Fry the garlic in a pot with olive oil for one minute.
- Add the onions and fry for another 5 minutes, until the onions become soft.
- Add the chili pepper, cinnamon, cinnamon, and coriander, and fry for another minute.
- Add the red lentils and cover with water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Check the consistency of the lentils, add salt and lemon juice to taste.
- Serve the Misir Wat hot in a bowl, accompanied by Ethiopian black bread.
