Ingredients

  • 200g of paneer cut into cubes
  • 200g of green peas
  • 2 onions finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic crushed
  • 1 dried red chili
  • 200ml of liquid cream
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon of grated ginger

Method

  1. In a pan, heat the sesame oil and sauté the onions and garlic for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add the paneer and dried red chili, stirring well.
  3. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the paneer begins to brown.
  4. Add the green peas, turmeric, and ginger, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the liquid cream, pepper, salt, and sugar, stirring well.
  6. Cook on medium heat for another 5-7 minutes until the sauce coats the peas and paneer.
  7. Serve hot, accompanied by basmati rice or bread.

The story

Matar Paneer is a traditional North Indian dish, particularly popular in Delhi. Originally, it was prepared with paneer, a traditional Indian cheese, and green peas, which were easily available in the region.
