Matar Paneer
A warm, rich dish of paneer and green peas, served in Delhi.

Ingredients
- 200g of paneer cut into cubes
- 200g of green peas
- 2 onions finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic crushed
- 1 dried red chili
- 200ml of liquid cream
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
Method
- In a pan, heat the sesame oil and sauté the onions and garlic for about 2 minutes.
- Add the paneer and dried red chili, stirring well.
- Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the paneer begins to brown.
- Add the green peas, turmeric, and ginger, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the liquid cream, pepper, salt, and sugar, stirring well.
- Cook on medium heat for another 5-7 minutes until the sauce coats the peas and paneer.
- Serve hot, accompanied by basmati rice or bread.
The story
Matar Paneer is a traditional North Indian dish, particularly popular in Delhi. Originally, it was prepared with paneer, a traditional Indian cheese, and green peas, which were easily available in the region.
