Ingredients

  • 200g of cornmeal flour
  • 150g of jaggery
  • 50g of almonds
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 3-4 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Water as needed for preparation
  • 1-2 tablespoons of jaggery powder for sprinkling

Method

  1. Mix the cornmeal flour with jaggery, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Add oil and gradually mix in water until you get a homogeneous dough.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls and cook them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Drain the balls and let them cool.
  5. Sprinkle with jaggery powder and serve immediately.
  6. Alternatively, the balls can be caramelized in a pan with a little jaggery before being sprinkled.

Khandvi has a long history in Gujarati cuisine, tracing back to the traditions of midday meals when women would prepare sweets for their families.
