Karachi-Style Chicken Tikka

A classic Karachi-style dish, flavorful and delicious, perfect for a dinner party, made in advance.

Ingredients
- 400 g of chicken pieces
- 2 onions, chopped
- 1 red chili, chopped
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili extract
Method
- Take the chicken pieces and cut them into pieces about 2 x 2 cm.
- In a large bowl, mix the olive oil, chopped onions, chopped red chili, black pepper, salt, coriander, chili powder, white vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, and chili extract.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well to ensure they are fully coated.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the chicken pieces marinate for at least 4 hours, preferably in the refrigerator.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Take the chicken pieces and place them on a grill or pan with a bit of remaining marinade.
- Grill or cook the chicken pieces for 10-15 minutes, turning every 5 minutes to ensure they are well cooked.
- Serve the grilled chicken tikka hot with bread or as a main course.
The story
Tikka originated in Karachi when Muslim immigrants from India brought this dish, which quickly became popular for its simplicity and exquisite taste.
