Kadai Paneer
A creamy and spicy paneer dish from Delhi, featuring cottage cheese cooked with vegetables and typical Delhi spices.

Ingredients
- 200g paneer, cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 200g bell peppers, sliced
- 100g red bell peppers, sliced
- 100g green onions, sliced
- 200g tomatoes, cubed
- 200g red onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed powder
Method
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onion for 2 minutes.
- Add the red onion and vegetables, sauté for 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are soft.
- Add the paneer, spices, salt, sugar, and red wine vinegar. Stir well.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the paneer is well cooked and the vegetables are slightly tender.
- Add the soy sauce and yogurt, stir well and let it heat up for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot, accompanied by basmati rice or whole wheat bread.
The story
Paneer Kadai is a popular North Indian dish, particularly widespread in the Delhi region. Originally, it was prepared with paneer, a cheese made from goat milk, which was more readily available in rural areas compared to cow's milk.
