Ingredients

  • 200g paneer, cubed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 200g bell peppers, sliced
  • 100g red bell peppers, sliced
  • 100g green onions, sliced
  • 200g tomatoes, cubed
  • 200g red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed powder

Method

  1. In a large pan, heat the olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onion for 2 minutes.
  2. Add the red onion and vegetables, sauté for 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are soft.
  3. Add the paneer, spices, salt, sugar, and red wine vinegar. Stir well.
  4. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the paneer is well cooked and the vegetables are slightly tender.
  5. Add the soy sauce and yogurt, stir well and let it heat up for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, accompanied by basmati rice or whole wheat bread.

The story

Paneer Kadai is a popular North Indian dish, particularly widespread in the Delhi region. Originally, it was prepared with paneer, a cheese made from goat milk, which was more readily available in rural areas compared to cow's milk.
