Jajangmyeon

A traditional Korean dish, Jajangmyeon is a delightful mix of black noodles and vegetables in a soy sauce-based sauce.

Ingredients
- 200g of black noodles
- 200g of shiitake mushrooms
- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon of soybean oil
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of ginger powder
- 1 cup of vegetable broth
- 100g of meat balls
- 2 tablespoons of onion soy sauce
Method
- Slice the mushrooms and the onion, then sauté them in a pan with soybean oil.
- In a pot, mix the soy sauce, tomato sauce, honey, black pepper, and ginger powder.
- Add the vegetable broth and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a separate pan, cook the meat pieces and the mushrooms with the onion and soybean oil.
- Add the prepared sauce and the meat pieces, stir well.
- Cook the black noodles in salted water, then drain and add them to the sauce.
- Serve with the onion soy sauce on the plates.
The story
Jajangmyeon was introduced to South Korea during the Japanese occupation period but became particularly popular in Incheon, where locals adapted it with local ingredients.
