Ingredients

  • 500 g of ground meat
  • 1 onion
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 50 g of mint
  • 50 g of parsley
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 100 g of bread
  • oil for frying

Method

  1. Peel and chop the onion, carrots, zucchini, and bell pepper. Add the ground meat and mix well.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a pan and add sugar, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Meanwhile, cut the bread into squares about 10x10 cm. Fry the bread pieces in hot oil until golden and crispy.
  4. Fill the bread pieces with the meat and vegetable mixture. Cover with another piece of bread and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
  5. Serve the hawawshi hot, garnished with mint and parsley.
