Haemul Pajeon (해물파전)

A classic dish from Jeju-do, Haemul Pajeon is a crispy potato pancake packed with a variety of seafood.

Ingredients
- 200g of potatoes
- 300g of seafood (shrimp, clams, sardines, etc.)
- 100g of onion
- 1 egg
- 100g of flour
- 50g of ginger
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 300ml of oil for frying
Method
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Cook them in salted water for 5-7 minutes, then cool them under cold water.
- Chop the onion into cubes and the ginger into strips.
- In a bowl, mix the potatoes, onion, ginger, egg, flour, and a little salt and pepper.
- Add the seafood and mix well.
- Form balls of dough with the mixture and fry them in hot oil for 2-3 minutes until they become firm and golden.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with soy sauce and tomato sauce.
The story
Haemul Pajeon, a Jeju specialty, has a long history tied to local fishing. Initially made with simple ingredients, it has evolved over time to include a variety of seafood, making it more colorful and flavorful.
