Ingredients

  • 200g of cracked wheat
  • 4 ripe tomatoes
  • 300g of Greek feta cheese
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Red pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar

Method

  1. Wash the tomatoes, cut them into thin slices and place them in a bowl.
  2. Chop the onion into small cubes and place them in another bowl.
  3. Break the feta into small pieces and add it to the tomatoes.
  4. In another bowl, mix the extra virgin olive oil, salt, red pepper, and vinegar.
  5. Add the onion and feta pieces to the tomatoes.
  6. Mix well and add the cracked wheat.
  7. Serve fresh or let it sit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving.

The story

Dakos is a traditional Cretan dish that dates back to the Minoan era, when cracked wheat was used to preserve grain, which was later combined with tomatoes and Greek feta cheese.
