Ingredients

  • 400g of minced beef
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 200g of minced chicken
  • 200g of shrimp
  • 200g of tofu
  • 1 liter of beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of shoyu
  • 1 tablespoon of sake
  • 1 tablespoon of mirin
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 white onion, finely chopped

Method

  1. In a large pot, mix the beef broth, soy sauce, shoyu, sake, and mirin.
  2. Add the beef and chicken and cook for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the onions and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. In another pot, cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the tofu and chopped onions, stir well, and cook for 2 more minutes.
  6. Add the cooked onions to the broth and serve immediately.

The story

Chankonabe originated from the sumo schools in Tokyo and was prepared to help sumo wrestlers recover after their intense training sessions.
