Ingredients

  • 4 canastas of bread
  • 300 g of minced meat
  • 1 onion
  • 100 g of guacamole
  • 100 g of tomato cream
  • 100 g of cheddar cheese
  • 50 g of scallions
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Cut the ends of the canastas to create a hat shape.
  2. Fry the canastas in hot oil for a few minutes until golden brown.
  3. In a pan, cook the minced meat with the onion until well done.
  4. Dice the onion and scallions into small pieces.
  5. Add the diced onion and scallions to the meat and cook for a few minutes.
  6. In a bowl, mix the guacamole, tomato cream, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper.
  7. Fill the canastas with the meat and the mixed sauce.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top and bake in the oven at 180°C for 5-7 minutes.
  9. Serve with a side of fresh lettuce and salsa.

The story

Canasta Tacos originated in Mexico City in the 1950s when street vendors began selling their metal can bread, transforming it into a delicious dish.
