Bobotie Rolls

Delicate pastry rolls filled with a rich mixture of minced beef, almonds, and spices, crispy and delicious.

Ingredients
- 250 g of sweet pastry dough
- 200 g of minced beef
- 100 g of toasted and crushed almonds
- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon of chili powder
- 1 tablespoon of ginger powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1 egg
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Method
- Prepare the pastry dough and cut it into long strips about 15 cm in length.
- In a bowl, mix the minced beef with the almonds, chopped onion, chili powder, ginger powder, cinnamon powder, and cardamom powder. Season with salt to taste.
- Wrap the pastry strips around the meat mixture to form rolls.
- Beat the egg and brush the outer pastry strips with it.
- Fry the pastry rolls in hot oil until golden and crispy.
- Serve hot with a cider or tomato sauce.
The story
Bobotie rolls are a culinary specialty of Afrikaner origin, derived from the traditional South African bobotie dish, and have found a place in the menus of Cape Town families.
