This is a classic Tongerenese dish, crispy and flavorful fried Bintje potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of Bintje potatoes
  • 500 ml of vegetable oil
  • salt to taste
  • cooking salt
  • 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

Method

  1. Wash the Bintje potatoes thoroughly and cut them into thin slices.
  2. In a large pot that can hold the potato slices, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. When the oil is ready (around 180°C), fry the potato slices in small portions for 3-4 minutes or until they are crispy.
  4. Use a fork to drain the fries and let them cool for a few minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix the balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, and sugar.
  6. Dip the fries in the mixture and let them marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  7. Serve the Bintje potato fries hot with salt to taste.
