Ingredients

  • 200g of potatoes
  • 100g of buckwheat
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1/2 onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (optional)

Method

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into small cubes.
  2. Boil the potatoes over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are soft.
  3. Layer the potatoes with the buckwheat and mix well.
  4. In a pan, sauté the oil and onion until the onion is golden.
  5. Add the potato and buckwheat mixture, stir well and cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until the rösti is crispy.
  6. If desired, add the egg and stir for one minute.
  7. Serve hot with salt and pepper to taste.

The story

The Bernese Röschti has its origins in the Bern region, where it was traditionally prepared with bread and potatoes for breakfast. Today, it is loved throughout Switzerland.
