Ingredients

  • 500g of pork meat
  • 300g of beef
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 liter of beef broth
  • 100g of toasted bread
  • 200g of grated cheese

Method

  1. Mix the pork and beef in a large bowl.
  2. Mince the onions and garlic, then add them to the meat.
  3. Add the black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes, and mix well.
  4. Fry the bread slices in a pan with olive oil until they become crispy.
  5. In a pot, bring the beef broth to a boil and add the meat mixture.
  6. Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve with the crispy bread slices and some grated cheese on top.

The story

The Basler Bratwurst traces its origins back to the 17th century, when Basel meat merchants started selling these crispy-sliced sausages. Since then, it has become a culinary symbol of the city.
