Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of palm oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Guinean pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of parsley

Method

  1. Prepare the chicken breasts and cut them into equal-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix the vinegar, sugar, Guinean pepper, cayenne pepper, thyme, and parsley.
  3. Add the chicken to the marinade and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  4. In a pan, heat the palm oil and sauté the onion and garlic until they are golden brown.
  5. Add the chicken and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until it is fully cooked.
  6. Finally, add the lemon juice and season with salt to taste.
  7. Serve the Yassa Poulet hot with rice.

The story

The Yassa Poulet has its origins in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, where it was created to honor the Malian king, Mansa Musa, in the 15th century.
