Ingredients

  • 500 grams of apples (preferably a sweet variety)
  • 200 grams of flour
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 50 grams of butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 100 grams of almonds
  • 100 grams of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder

Method

  1. Core and cut the apples into small cubes, put them in a bowl and add a bit of sugar and cinnamon, mix well.
  2. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and melted butter.
  3. Add the egg and mix until you get a homogeneous dough.
  4. Form a ball with the dough and set it aside.
  5. In a baking dish, put the apples, add the almonds and the rest of the sugar, mix well.
  6. Form a circle with the dough and place it over the apples, make some cuts to allow the pie to breathe.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 40-45 minutes, until the dough is golden.
  8. Let it cool down and decorate with the pulled sugar.

The Apple Pie is a recipe with roots in the culinary tradition of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, where the use of local apples has always been very common.
