Trentino Apple Pie

A traditional sweet and crunchy apple pie from the Trentino-Alto Adige region, Italy.

Ingredients
- 500 grams of apples (preferably a sweet variety)
- 200 grams of flour
- 100 grams of sugar
- 50 grams of butter
- 1 egg
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 100 grams of almonds
- 100 grams of granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
Method
- Core and cut the apples into small cubes, put them in a bowl and add a bit of sugar and cinnamon, mix well.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and melted butter.
- Add the egg and mix until you get a homogeneous dough.
- Form a ball with the dough and set it aside.
- In a baking dish, put the apples, add the almonds and the rest of the sugar, mix well.
- Form a circle with the dough and place it over the apples, make some cuts to allow the pie to breathe.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 40-45 minutes, until the dough is golden.
- Let it cool down and decorate with the pulled sugar.

The Apple Pie is a recipe with roots in the culinary tradition of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, where the use of local apples has always been very common.
