Toad in the Hole
A classic English dish, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with sausages cooked in a pancake.

Ingredients
- 4 sausages
- 150 g of bread crumbs
- 3 eggs
- 100 ml of milk
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- 3 tablespoons of oil
- 1 onion
- 100 g of parsley
- 200 g of potatoes
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise
Method
- Slice the sausages thinly and set aside.
- Beat the eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper.
- Add the bread crumbs and mix well.
- Dice the onion and sauté it in a pan with oil until golden brown.
- Add the sausage slices and cubed potatoes, and cook for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate pan, fry the sausage slices in a little oil.
- Pour the egg mixture over the vegetables and sausages, and top with the crispy sausage slices.
- Cook for another 10-15 minutes or until the egg mixture is golden and crispy.
The story
Toad in the Hole is a regional specialty, particularly popular in Yorkshire, where it was originally made with sausages and Spanish pancake, a type of crispy bread.
