Ingredients

  • 200g of black bread
  • 100g of honey
  • 100g of ground almonds
  • 50g of semolina
  • 3 eggs
  • 500ml of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla powder
  • Granulated sugar for decoration
  • 100g of dark chocolate

Method

  1. Cut the black bread into pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix the honey, eggs, milk, semolina, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  3. Add the bread pieces and ground almonds, mixing well.
  4. Check the consistency, add a bit more milk if needed.
  5. Pour the mixture into a tart form and add the dark chocolate.
  6. Bake at 180°C for 30-35 minutes, until the surface is golden.
  7. Let it cool down, then decorate with granulated sugar.
  8. Serve warm or cold as an appetizer.

The story

Svartbrød originated in the northern regions of Norway, such as Troms, where it was traditionally made with old bread and dried fruit to use up leftovers from breakfast.
