St. Joseph's Bread Balls

This traditional sweet from Portland, Jamaica, is a crispy exterior and soft interior delight, perfectly dusted in a bowl of sugar.

Ingredients
- 250 g of flour
- 100 g of sugar
- 100 g of butter
- 1 egg
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 50 g of crushed almonds
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla powder
- Sugar for decoration
Method
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- In another bowl, beat the egg with the sugar and butter until you get a smooth mixture.
- Add the mixture to the flour mixture and stir until you get a homogeneous dough.
- Add the crushed almonds and gently mix.
- Form balls of similar size and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Make a small hole in each ball and fill it with a small amount of cream.
- Cover with almonds and let rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the balls for 15-20 minutes, until they become golden.
- Dust with sugar to decorate.

St. Joseph's Bread Balls were created as a tribute to the patron saint of the family, St. Joseph, and have become a symbol of good luck during Easter celebrations.
