Split Pea Soup

Ingredients
- 400g of split peas
- 2 onions
- 2 carrots
- 2 celery stalks
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 liters of beef broth
- 1 lettuce
- 1 tablespoon of chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Method
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil and sauté the chopped onions, carrots, and celery.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add the split peas and cover with beef broth.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 45-60 minutes or until the split peas are tender.
- Add the chopped lettuce and chili powder, stir, and let it boil for 10 minutes.
- Puree the split peas with a masher and add to the broth, stirring well.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with a slice of toasted bread.
