Ingredients

  • 400 grams of fresh shrimp
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon of cilantro powder
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped green onion
  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar

Method

  1. Clean the shrimp and cut them into pieces.
  2. Mix the lemon juice with salt, sugar, and olive oil.
  3. In a bowl, combine the shrimp pieces, white vinegar, chopped onion, chili powder, cilantro powder, chopped green onion, and chopped cilantro.
  4. Add the lemon juice mixture and gently mix.
  5. Refrigerate the ceviche for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  6. Top with chopped cilantro before serving.

The story

Shrimp ceviche, like all ceviches in Colombia, has pre-Columbian origins, but has become particularly popular in Cartagena due to its strategic port position.
