Ingredients

  • 300g of grits
  • 100g of butter
  • 100g of onion
  • 200g of fresh shrimp
  • 100ml of milk
  • 100ml of fish broth
  • 100g of grated cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • 100g of cornmeal
  • Peach slices

Method

  1. In a pot, cook the grits with boiling water for about 20 minutes. Add the milk and fish broth, then stir and let cool.
  2. Meanwhile, slice the onion and sauté it with the butter in a pan.
  3. Add the shrimp and fry until golden brown.
  4. In a bowl, mix the grits with the cheese, salt, and pepper.
  5. In a pan, fry the cornmeal in oil to give a crispy taste.
  6. Serve the grits in a bowl, add the fried shrimp on top and decorate with peach slices.
  7. Enjoy!

Grits, or polenta, are a Southern culinary tradition dating back to British colonization, while shrimp became a main ingredient in the 1980s.
