Ingredients

  • 200 g of flour
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 ml of rum
  • 50 g of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 50 g of chopped nuts
  • 100 ml of milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, mix the butter, eggs, rum, and milk.
  3. Alternate adding the wet mixture to the dry ingredients in two parts, mixing gently after each addition.
  4. Add the nuts and mix well.
  5. Check the consistency and add more flour if the mixture is too wet.
  6. Pour the mixture into a cake pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool before serving.

The story

Rum cake has a history dating back to the British colonial era, when colonists brought rum as an ingredient for sweets.
