Pupusas
This traditional Mexican dish is a crunchy exterior and soft interior delight, perfect for a home-cooked dinner.

Ingredients
- 300 g of corn flour
- 200 ml of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 100 g of cotija cheese
- 100 g of ground meat
- 100 g of onions
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for frying
- Chopped lettuce
- Chopped tomatoes
Method
- Mix the corn flour with warm water and olive oil until you get a homogeneous dough.
- Shape the pupusas into small balls of about 50-60 g each.
- Fry the pupusas in a pan with a little oil until they form holes and become crispy.
- In another pan, sauté finely chopped onions with a little oil.
- Add the ground meat and cook until it thickens.
- Assemble the pupusas with cotija cheese, meat, and chopped lettuce and tomatoes.
- Serve the hot pupusas with salt and pepper to taste.
The story
Pupusas were introduced to Mexico by Salvadorian tourists, who fell in love with them from the start. Now, they are a popular dish in many regions of Mexico.
