Ingredients

  • 500 g of pumpkin
  • 500 g of sugar
  • 500 g of honey
  • 200 g of sesame seeds
  • 100 g of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • 100 g of crushed almonds
  • 100 g of crushed pistachios

Method

  1. Prepare the pumpkin by cutting it into pieces and cooking it in water for 30 minutes, then drain and let it cool.
  2. In a saucepan, mix the sugar, honey, butter, and cinnamon, bring to a boil, then reduce to medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped pumpkin and cook for 10 minutes, then add the sesame seeds and dried fruits.
  4. Pour the preparation into a baking dish and bake in the oven at 180°C for 30 minutes.
  5. Let it cool, cut into squares, and serve.

The story

Halva, a traditional Middle Eastern sweet, was brought to Israel and adapted with local ingredients like pumpkin, creating a unique and autumnal version.
