Pine Empanadas
Pine empanadas are a traditional dish from Talca, rich in flavorful pinoncillo and spices.

Ingredients
- 200 g of pinoncillo
- 100 g of butter
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 2 eggs
- 200 g of flour
- 1 onion
- 100 g of lard
- 100 g of prosciutto
- 100 g of carrots
- 100 g of potatoes
Method
- Make a mixture of pinoncillo, butter, sugar, ginger, black pepper, and salt.
- Beat the eggs and add flour to form the dough.
- Prepare the filling with the onion, chopped vegetables, lard, prosciutto, carrots, and potatoes.
- Shape the empanadas with the dough and filling.
- Make slits for the empanadas to open up.
- Fry the empanadas in a pan with oil.
- Serve hot with tomato sauce.
The story
Pine empanadas have indigenous roots and were adapted by Spanish colonists, becoming a popular dish in the Talca region.
