Ingredients

  • 2 beefsteaks (about 8 oz each)
  • 100 g mozzarella
  • 100 g provolone cheese
  • 2 slices of pancetta
  • 1 onion
  • 200 ml tomato sauce
  • oil for frying
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • frying cream
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Method

  1. Dice the onion and put it in a bowl with the tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and spices. Mix well.
  2. Dice the beefsteaks and put them in a separate bowl. Add the frying cream and mix to coat the steaks.
  3. Fry the steaks in hot oil until golden and crispy. Remove from heat and let them cool.
  4. Dice the mozzarella and provolone and put them in a separate bowl.
  5. Fry the pancetta in a separate pan until golden and crispy. Remove the pancetta from heat and let it cool.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches with the steaks, cheese, and pancetta. Serve with tomato sauce and a bay leaf.
  7. Bake the sandwiches in the oven for 5 minutes to warm them up and melt the cheese.

The story

The Philadelphia cheese steak originated in the 1930s in Pennsylvania, initially sold by street vendors and later becoming a iconic dish of the city.
