Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 150 g of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 ml of milk
  • 200 ml of warm milk
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1/2 packet of vanilla sugar
  • A little sugar for decoration
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, and vanilla sugar.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and warm milk, then add the flour and mix well.
  3. Form small balls with the dough and dip them in hot oil for a few seconds.
  4. Fry the balls for 30-40 seconds until they become crispy.
  5. Drain the pastéis and let them cool on a baking paper.
  6. Decorate with a little sugar before serving.

The story

Pastéis de nata originated in Lisbon and were invented in 1837 by a French friar, who made them a popular sweet.
