A traditional Pakistani sweet, national kheer is a creamy and sweet dessert made with milk, rice, and sugar.

Ingredients
- 500 ml milk
- 100 g rice
- 150 g sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla powder
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 100 ml chopped almonds
- 100 ml chopped pistachios
- 1 teaspoon saffron powder (optional)
Method
- In a pot, bring the milk to a boil and add the rice, sugar, vanilla, cardamom, and cinnamon. Stir well.
- Cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is soft and the kheer has become creamy.
- Turn off the heat and add the chopped almonds and pistachios. If desired, add the saffron powder for a touch of color.
- Let the kheer cool and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve chilled, decorated with chopped almonds and pistachios.
