Ingredients

  • 200 g of wheat
  • 400 g of goat meat
  • 2 onions
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 liter of water
  • Oil for frying
  • Cinnamon sugar
  • Salt

Method

  1. In a pot, cook the wheat with water for about 1 hour until it is soft.
  2. Cut the goat meat into small pieces and fry in a pan with oil until well cooked.
  3. While the meat is cooking, slice the onions and chili pepper.
  4. Add the onions and chili pepper to the meat, stirring well.
  5. Add all the other ingredients except salt, stirring well.
  6. Cook for about 30 minutes, adding salt to taste.
  7. Serve the Harees hot, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

Medina Harees is a traditional dish that dates back to the time of Prophet Muhammad, who would prepare it for pilgrims during their journey to Mecca. Today, it is prepared throughout the region to celebrate Ramadan and other religious festivals.
