A traditional dish from the Qasim region, Makbus is a culinary masterpiece that combines meat and rice into one dish.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of ground beef
  • 100 g of wrapped rice
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 200 ml of beef broth
  • 2 mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of saffron
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and saffron.
  2. In a pan, sauté finely chopped onion and garlic.
  3. Add the mixed meat and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  4. In another container, place the wrapped rice and add beef broth, cover and let it boil for 15-20 minutes.
  5. In a baking dish, place the sautéed meat on top of the wrapped rice.
  6. Cover with baking paper and bake in the oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.
  7. Insert the mint leaves before serving.

The story

Makbus has a history that dates back to ancient times, when hunters would stuff a rice parcel with meat for their journey. Today, this recipe has become a traditional family dish in Qasim.
