A traditional dish from the Qasim region, Makbus is a culinary masterpiece that combines meat and rice into one dish.

Ingredients
- 200 g of ground beef
- 100 g of wrapped rice
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 200 ml of beef broth
- 2 mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon of saffron
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
Method
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and saffron.
- In a pan, sauté finely chopped onion and garlic.
- Add the mixed meat and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- In another container, place the wrapped rice and add beef broth, cover and let it boil for 15-20 minutes.
- In a baking dish, place the sautéed meat on top of the wrapped rice.
- Cover with baking paper and bake in the oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.
- Insert the mint leaves before serving.
The story
Makbus has a history that dates back to ancient times, when hunters would stuff a rice parcel with meat for their journey. Today, this recipe has become a traditional family dish in Qasim.
