Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 100 g of butter
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 50 g of semolina
  • 100 g of sesame seeds
  • 100 g of sugar syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of warm water

Method

  1. Mix the flour, semolina, baking powder, and melted butter in a bowl, add the warm water and egg, and form a homogeneous dough.
  2. Divide the dough into small balls and form small balls, coating them with sesame seeds.
  3. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough.
  4. Preheat the oven and bake the ma'amoul for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. In a pan, mix the sugar and water, bring to a boil and prepare the sugar syrup.
  6. Dip the ma'amoul in the sugar syrup and let them rest for 2 hours before serving.

The story

Ma'amoul were introduced to the Middle East and North Africa by the Arabs and have become a symbol of local culinary traditions.
