Kvas
Kvas is a traditional Ukrainian sweet and aromatic drink perfect for quenching your thirst in summer.

Ingredients
- 1 liter of water
- 200 grams of wheat bread
- 100 grams of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of beer yeast
- Pepper corns
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh mint
Method
- Take a piece of wheat bread and blend it until you get a homogeneous mixture.
- In a large pot, mix the water, blended bread, sugar, salt, and beer yeast.
- Let the mixture rest for 24 hours at room temperature, covered with a clean cloth.
- After 24 hours, strain the drink through a multi-layer filter to remove bread residues.
- Add the pepper corns and fresh mint sprigs.
- Stir well and let it rest in a cool, well-ventilated place for 24 hours.
- The kvas is ready to be served, enjoy it cold.
The story
Kvas is a beverage known across Eastern Europe, but it is particularly popular in Ukraine, where it has been made for centuries. Initially prepared as a way to use old bread and preserve it, it later became a distinct drink.
