Kroketten
This crispy and savory Belgian croquette is perfect for an aperitif or as a snack.

Ingredients
- 250 g of bacon
- 250 g of potatoes
- 1 onion
- 1 egg
- 100 g of breadcrumbs
- 50 g of butter
- 50 g of oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 120 ml of milk
Method
- Prepare the filling: chop the bacon, onion, and potatoes, then cook in a pan with butter.
- While the filling cools, boil the milk and mix the egg with the breadcrumbs.
- In a bowl, mix the filling with the egg and breadcrumbs, adding salt and pepper to taste.
- Form the croquettes with the filling, wrapping each one in a piece of kitchen paper to cool.
- Fry the croquettes in hot oil until golden brown.
- Serve hot.
The story
Kroketten, or croquettes, were introduced to Belgium by the French in the 19th century and quickly became a popular snack.
